The New York variant B.1.526 lineage is characterised by six lineage-defining mutations in the spike protein, including D614G mutation and one at important residues in the receptor-binding domain (S477N or E484K)1.The combination of E484K or S477N with a D253G mutation of the B.1.526 lineage that might confer immune escape and the increased number of COVID-19 cases2.
