Gene Alias

Predicted to enable cysteine-type peptidase activity; p53 binding activity; and transmembrane transporter binding activity. Predicted to be involved in several processes, including DNA damage response, signal transduction by p53 class mediator; cellular response to interleukin-1; and negative regulation of I-kappaB kinase/NF-kappaB signaling. Predicted to be located in cytoplasm; intermediate filament cytoskeleton; and nucleoplasm. Predicted to be part of protein-containing complex. Predicted to be active in cytosol; early endosome; and nucleus. Orthologous to human USP10 (ubiquitin specific peptidase 10). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Apr 2022]

gene description

Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein that is covalently linked to other proteins to regulate their function and degradation. This gene encodes a member of the ubiquitin-specific protease family of cysteine proteases. The enzyme specifically cleaves ubiquitin from ubiquitin-conjugated protein substrates. The protein is found in the nucleus and cytoplasm. It functions as a co-factor of the DNA-bound androgen receptor complex, and is inhibited by a protein in the Ras-GTPase pathway. The human genome contains several pseudogenes similar to this gene. Several transcript variants, some protein-coding and others not protein-coding, have been found for this gene.
